My concentration
This is the first completed piece in my concentration. I am quite partial to it because the "window" gives it some depth and helps to give focus to the detail of the painting. I decided to have the water flow out of the window to show that there is much more to nature than just the window that people look through when driving. To get the full experience you have to go out side. See it, smell it, hear it. It's not something that you can just hang on a wall but you can actually walk in it. Don't take it for granted, take time "to stop and smell the roses."
My cabin piece is a very serene and peaceful place to go. I made it because it is nice to just get out of the city's hustle and bustle. A nice warm cabin with a fire place to relax by enveloped in the quiet, calming beauty of nature. It's a place where you can feel the interdependence of the Universe. We should never lose sight of that. We all need each other.
I did this one because though beautiful, mountains are only part of the abundantly beautiful scenery around us. Some of my favorite memories are fishing with my dad in a place like this. Even if we didn't catch anything, it was still just as fun.
This is a reflection of nature combined with pop art. It reminds me of recording music. It's nice to go somewhere and let your imagination flow. You can come up with amazing ideas!
This piece is one of my favorites because it reminds me of hunting with my brother and my dad.
Trudging along, tired and freezing our butts off we suddenly stumble upon a beautiful mountain range. Immediately our stress lifts and we no longer have any worries about anything. We no longer feel the cold. Time stops for just a moment. The effect is instantaneous. We can feel our connection with the Universe.

I love trees because they live for so long through the harshest of weather and even in death they are so pretty. Not many people look at mountains and say "omg! Look at those trees!" This is one of the reasons I like to do just trees. I specifically chose a winter scene to show the quiet beauty and stillness of the tree, the leaves are the ornaments.
Working with pen and ink is so much fun because it requires me to focus more on the details of the trees and the mountains and the clouds in the back. It brings me closer to the piece because it is a really combination of separate pieces, each requiring different technique to get the right result. Each allows me to visualize the the picture so much better. Putting each individual ripple of water in the creek adds to the depth and realism of it. This assignment was really helpful in a lot of ways. It was awesome to get pulled into the piece as I concentrated on the details. It really helped me to see the importance of the smallest detail.
Pastel is such a fun medium to work with. I find it is so much like oil that it just comes naturally to me. The rickety old broken down cabin shows how everything slowly rots and returns to nature, again exemplifying our interconnectedness. Even though the road is clearly delineated, with the passage of time it too will begin to get overgrown and blend back into the landscape.
I did this one in pen and ink and stained the background with coffee. The coffee stain gives it a rustic , simple look. I put it in a wooden frame because it reminded me of a log cabin and how peaceful it is to be in the woods. Plus, the satin makes it look really old. like it came from a real log cabin 100 years ago.
Painting this piece was a lot of fun because I centered it around various shades of green. I explored a bunch of new techniques and found myself very happy with the end product.
This is my best piece in quality because it shows good depth, great color, and lots of composition, and flow. I painted it to show that there is life in places that seem barren and desolate, lifeless. I also did it to show that even in death, nature is beautiful and that death is merely the ending of a cycle. "Ashes to ashes, dust to dust'"
I love this piece because it is not the kind of painting that I usually do. I grew up as an artist, and have been drawing scenes from nature since I was 7 years old. My mom still has them, framed and hanging in her bedroom. Over the years, I've developed a newer more impressionistic style. Notice how the sap green and yellow ochre compliment each other and give much depth to the sky.
This was one of the first pieces that I ever painted I just love the reflections in the water. The bushes add some depth to the painting and the greens and yellows give the piece a Spring-like feel.
I painted this piece with prussian blue, midnight black, and titanium white. It is as if seen from a frosted window. Look at the beauty captured in that small amount of space! More beauty awaits if you just open your door walk outside.
My breadth
This piece was made with acrylic paint and on normal compact board with hot glue and basket weaving material. This was my first abstract piece. I feel darn good about it! It has nice movement, color, texture, and composition. I can see this hanging in my Aunt Kim's house.
This is the best breadth piece that i have completed. I really like it because it shows a great way to use neutral colors, cubism, and terpenoid. I used Titanium white to make the drippings. The garment-less , faceless lady represents innocence and insecurity, She adds depth to the painting and is a good example of an off center focal point.
I painted this piece of my friend because I think her beautiful features come out naturally through paint.
This is my very first painting. It is the only non-original piece that I have finished. The original was by Jean Pederson, and I used it as a guide to teach me how to paint. I chose it because I loved how beautiful and peaceful this woman looked.
This piece was made on watercolor paper with torn newspaper and acrilic. I used a painting knife to get the tecture and lots of red and green colors. I chose an owl because I think that they are very creepy and they remind me of "Big Brother" from the book 1984 by George Orwell.
This piece was inspired by Salvidor Dali and his use of clocks and because i thought that it woild be trippy.
" A Clockwork Blue?"
" A Clockwork Blue?"
This piece was most frustrating but is my favorite breadth piece because I spent so much time on it. Even though it is centered, it looks horror movie-ish(check out the hand in the window!) and I love scary movies. It was my first time using watercolor. I really enjoyed it.
This piece was a great use of color, cubism, and movement and the spiders added an off center focal point. It gives me a sense of being lost or in an endless maze of mirrors.
I painted this because i thought that this particular women was an amazing, beautiful, outstanding, and strong mother, who fought many battles with chemotherapy and kept her loving family close to her heart. This piece is dedicated to Paula, Alyssa, Vince, and the rest of the Mandarino family. In loving Memory of Dawn. Mother, wife, sister and friend. May you Rest in Peace.
